My question is 4,000,000 mm^2 = ? m^2. I know the answer is 4.
However, when I solve it...I get 400, since I believe 1 mm^2 = 1/100m x 1/100m which equals 1/10,000 m^2.
Why does 1 mm^2 = 1/100,000 m^2? Please help, I have a test tomorrow and can't figure this out!

1 m^2 = (1,000 mm)(1,000 mm) = 1,000,000 mm^2
You have to multiply the quantities and the units.

Simple thing to do is to convert everything in only one unit before starting to work. Find a conversion table from the internet. BUT be careful while converting for area you need to multiply
