I am a sophomore and I live in Santa fe, New Mexico. I've wanted to be an engineer ever since i cna remember, mechanical to be more specific. I excel in my PLTW engineering courses and i care a 4.3 GPA. I do lots of extra curriculars. I really want to go to MIT in the future. I feel like I need to do more outside of school in order to be more appealing to an admissions board. I haven't done much outside of school that has to do with engineering. I am currently looking for competitions, programs, national boards, just anything to do with engineering for my amusement and to have a better chance of getting into MIT. Please help. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

As a Sophomore in high school you are in a good position to take advantage of whatever resources may be available the next two years; however, I do not know what may be available in your locality. You might look into membership in one of the Junior programs of the ASME. Your high school adviser can be your best source of career planning Information. Contact the MIT Admissions Office and tell them of your intent. Review the MIT catalog. Also talk to some practicing engineers in a local engineering consulting firm or architectural design firm about their career options and preparations.
