No. Fracking will not cause earthquakes. It does make for a very unstable area where it is applied that could be greatly affected by earthquakes and other natural phenomena, and the damage is a lot worse than strip mining since it can't be fixed. But it doesn't cause earthquakes or make an area more prone to earthquakes.

It's one way of getting more crude oil (among other things) when the oil recovery is no longer economically viable. As such, it helps with the economy of an area for a few years. But, eventually, it "runs out" and hence leaves an area far poorer that it was.

I will NO you .
I used that to try and reassure you as you said you were "anxious" so stop having a go at people who are answering your question . Understand ??

I live in Texas in the middle of the Barnett Shale that is being fracked now and has been for about 4 years now . The earthquakes started about 1 and a half years ago . Never in recorded history has there been earthquakes here . The biggest was a 3.2 about 1.7 miles from our house . It sounded like a very loud sonic boom and shook the house just a little . The U.S.G.S. Keeps track of anything over 2.0 . After the quakes started Southern Methodist University then the US Geological Survey did studies and determined that fracking along with pumping saltwater back into dry holes were the cause . They are nothing to worry about mainly because they are so deep, 5 miles down or more . Well below the water tables . People enjoy saying to their neighbors "Hay, did you feel that one yesterday morning ?"

Yes, it will, Although it does not seem like it, rocks can actually bend, and following the natural laws of how waves work, they can create a ripple effect that will in turn evolve into a large earthquake over a long period of time. However, we need to boost our economy so that is why fracking is being allowed.

No !! major earthquakes will only be caused by the movement of tectonic plates ...

-
No. This has been greatly debunked.
