What caused the big bang

What caused something to be created out of nothing? What caused the big bang to bang? How did this matter just "poof" into existence? Did god create the big bang?

It formed from a Singularity. Think about the mass of absolute nothingness causing the creation of matter. There are many evidences that point towards the Big Bang. The Big Bang does not go against God, however the nuts out there have a tendency to think so. God explains things science can't. What we don't know is how the Singularity was formed or started. Who knows, could have been divine, could have been natural. The biggest part to look at isn't the actual creation of the universe, but the following. There is such a little chance that the universe could have made it that in my personal opinion, there had to be something help it along the way.

Our local universe did start in a Big Bang, possible as a result of a phenomenal quantum fluctuation which somehow became stable since the total energy of the universe could be zero because its mass-energy can be canceled by its negative gravitational potential energy.

Recent measurement of the curvature of space seem to indicate a flat universe, meaning it is infinite. I think this is more appealing to me. An infinite universe, in space and time.

By the way, Olbers paradox, arising from an infinite universe, can be disposed of in various ways.

I believe infinitely many Big Bangs, such as the one that created our local universe, are occurring throughout the infinite universe and are at every stage of expansion or contraction. Our own local universe will probably expand forever since its expansion is accelerating, and it will merge with adjacent universes.

Dark Flow, a relatively recent discovery, may be the first indication of the existence of neighboring universes.
