Is it true that when we are closest to the sun it's cold, and when we're furthest from the sun it's hot

-Thats opposite..........

The point the teacher was making is that it is not the distance to the Sun that creates the seasons, it is the axial tilt of the Earth.

Here is a link that has a few pictures and a more in depth explanation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Season

-
In the northern hemisphere, we are closest to the sun in winter and furthest from the sun in summer. It is the angle of the axis of the earth (23 degrees, relative to the sun), that makes the winter colder because there is significantly less heat impinging on our latitudes.

-
Because of the tilt of the earth on it's axis we have the seasons.
In the Northern Hemisphere, in the Winter, the earth is closest to the sun but the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun.

Just to opposite in Australia.

-
the sun is thermo nuclear fission . it is hot . the closer you get to something hot , the hotter your ambient temperature becomes .

-
For the northern hemisphere, yes that is true. For the southern hemisphere, it's the opposite.
.

-
If by "we" you mean we of the Northern hemisphere then yes. But the Southern hemispherians got it all backward due to the blood rushing to their upside-down heads.

-
That's opposite....

-
I think you heard that very wrong
