I read that diamonds were cut using diamond tipped blades, and using laser. How did they cut diamonds around 1 to 200 years ago?

Diamonds are cut using diamond dust. Here is a link to even earlier diamond cutting, it proved interesting reading, thanks for the question.

Some of the answers are correct... very careful cleaving (fracturing on existing defects or on particular crystallographic planes) and grinding with diamond dust.
A side note... the "ancients" did not have electricity, much less electroplating nor did they have acids. even if they did, it would not help them cut diamonds.

I'm sure they did more than just chipping. Ancients used acid etching and used electricity to plate coins with gold.

Back in the day they chipped into them until they were perfect.
