Rats are poor swimmers. Therefore even if they know a ship is sinking and even if they abandon ship, they will most likely drown and/or die of hypothermia, much like humans would. I assure you that 100% of the rats that were riding on the Titanic drowned unless they hitched a ride on the cargo (if any) that was saved.
