Greatest threat to Earth

I have to write a persuasive essay on what I think the greatest threat to Earth is. I started off by saying that humans are the greatest threat to Earth. Do you agree with my statement? Please explain why. If you disagree, and have another thought on the matter, please share it, and provide an explanation. Thank you very much in advance!

I must respectfully disagree. Humans are the greatest threat to humans. The Earth is indifferent to human actions. Earth will always be the Earth. Change is a natural process.

The greatest threat to the planet is an asteroid collision. The asteroid (or meteor if you prefer) that struck the Earth at the end of the Cretaceous Period created havoc with all of the Earth's systems. Another impact of that size would devastate the human population along with everything else. Imagine if the impactor was even bigger...

The Asker is crazy. We humans care for our planet and take care of it. We are not a threat at all.

The hole in the ozone is still being debated as is the global warming concept. We have caused animals to become extinct but it is insignificant to the species that have extinct on their own, by natural processes. We are currently in the process of preserving species as well.

I like the answer of "number 17" best, but, the stuff from nearby supernova could be a bigger threat to our planet and even the sun for that matter. Supernova stuff is ejected at a speed way too fast to be stopped if any of it ever comes our way. It would hit us with more force than anything ever known.

I agree with your statement. Humans are the most destructive creatures on Earth. We pretty much created every problem that is present in today's world - wars, pollution, etc.
