If a black solid with a constant melting point is heated to a high temperature, producing a gas, and shiny brown metal. the boiling point of the gas is -183 deg celcius and melting point is 1085deg celcius. Is this black solid an element, a compound, or a mixture? please explain! how you guys answered it.

Since the heat decomposed the black solid into 2 products, it cannot be an element. It had a constant melting point, thus we can say it is a compound, and not a mixture - the mixture would melt at 2 distinct temperatures.

Try googling it, google has the answer to lots of things :)
