5*8.85e-12*100²*1 e9= 44.......
in fair weather, earth's atmospheric electric field is about 100 v/m.
Find energy stored in each km^3 of the fair weather atmosphere.

The answer the book gives is 44 J. And I just would like to know how they came to this conclusion. I don't understand which equation to use. Thanks!

Energy stored per m^3 = U = (½) εo E²
Energy per (km)^3 = 0.5*8.85e-12*100²*1 e9 = 44.25 J
