Fortified wines, like what kids used to call MD 20/20, contains 20% alcohol. The yeast that use alcoholic fermentation to produce the ethanol in the wine cannot exist in an environment containing more than 12-13% ethanol and therefore would die before reaching a concentration greater than their limit.Greater concentration requires distillation of fortification.Anyway,......
If a wine glass contains about 125 cm3, what volume of ethanol will be present in this much wine?

The answer to this question depends on the alcoholic content of the wine in question. "Good" wines have an alcohol content of around 10 -13 % with 12% being the average. Fortified wines, like what kids used to call MD 20/20, contains 20% alcohol. The yeast that use alcoholic fermentation to produce the ethanol in the wine cannot exist in an environment containing more than 12-13% ethanol and therefore would die before reaching a concentration greater than their limit. Greater concentration requires distillation of fortification. Anyway, if the wine is 12% alcohol then there is (0.12 x volume of wine) of alcohol it it. (0.12 x 125 cc = 15 cc of alcohol).
