Is chemistry and Maths A-levels hard

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-11-19] [Hit: ]
when people got A* at GCSE and then got a U at A-level.-I am doing Maths and Physics (and tech but not really related) and i can say that they arent hard if you sit down and put work into understanding them. If you go to the lesson, sit messing about, then yes its hard, but if you sit down and try to understand whats on the board,......
I did the foundation paper and got full marks. I'm retaking for higher. How hard is it? Will it be too much work and make me fail the whole thing? How are the practical exams? I am willing to put the work in but I'm scared it won't be enough...
Advice please (:

Oh and is Maths seriously that bad? I heard some really horrifying stories, when people got A* at GCSE and then got a U at A-level.

I am doing Maths and Physics (and tech but not really related) and i can say that they aren't hard if you sit down and put work into understanding them. If you go to the lesson, sit messing about, then yes its hard, but if you sit down and try to understand whats on the board, go home do the homework, then you might find it a little hard or tricky at times, but not hard enough for a U.
And the getting A* and finally ending up with a U, sounds to me like some one couldn't be bothered to put any work into the subject......
And going from GCSE Higher to As level will be a little like going from foundation to higher, and then again from As Level to A level.
Dont get me wrong, Maths and Chemistry will be hard, but if you put the work in, then you will come out with good grades.

I can't tell you about Chemistry, but I found maths AS really bloody difficult. I got an A in GCSE maths and an E in AS level, you have to REALLY work hard to get a good grade, it's doable, but difficult. Getting a grade in maths is widely respected by universities etc. If you practice a lot and learn it well, there's no reason you won't do well. I really didnt have the motivation so i didn't do well...hope this helps! x

Well, I looked at the league tables a year or two ago, and a higher % of students doing chemistry get As than any other subject, and maths is pretty high too. there may be several reasons for this:
a) chemistry students are nerdy and work harder than other students
b) chemistry is easy to do well in
c) chemistry has answers that are right or wrong, rather than the essay time quessies you get in humanities.
d) the gov dish out the As to encourage people to study sciences because the country is short of scientists.

I say go for it. a) you clearly want to do it, and that is haf the battle. If you are keen and you want it, then you will clearly do your best b) if you take soomethign else you will regret it always c) the country is short of scientists and so you're more likely to get into a good uni and get a decent job than if you do something wishy-washy d) science is important
