and an electron. the electrons orbit the proton/neutron nucleus. How many PROTONS you have determines what kind of element you are. How many NEUTRONS you have determines if you are an isotope or the original form. How many ELECTRONS you have determines if the atom has a positive/negative charge or not. Hope this helps!......
Explain pleaseeeee.

Defs struggled with this in HS, but found out it was really straightforward. SO: short answer, no. An isotope of an element is formed when a NEUTRON is taken or added to or from the element. So, an atom is made of a proton, a neutron, and an electron. the electrons orbit the proton/neutron nucleus. How many PROTONS you have determines what kind of element you are. How many NEUTRONS you have determines if you are an isotope or the original form. How many ELECTRONS you have determines if the atom has a positive/negative charge or not. Hope this helps!
