Displacement Metals homework? CONFUSING??? :(

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-11-10] [Hit: ]
I managed to do question 1 and 2a, but from then on I cant do the rest of the on the left side. And on the right side, I could do 1 and 2 but thats it. PLEASE help me with questions 3,4,......
I missed a lesson and have been off all week, so I need to catch up. My home work is due in tomorrow so I can't ask the teacher for help or anything.
I'm not asking you to do my homework for me, but please help, I don't understand any of this.
It's all of the questions on the second page of this - http://www.mansonpublishing.com/book-images/9781840760392_sample.pdf
Where the title says Metals Reactivity Series and Metals Displacement reactions.
I managed to do question 1 and 2a, but from then on I cant do the rest of the on the left side. And on the right side, I could do 1 and 2 but that's it. PLEASE help me with questions 3,4,5,6,7 on both sides. It's a lot to ask, but I've NO IDEA how to do any of it and I'm in big trouble if I don't do it :(

Left side:

2b. Compounds, because they are so reactive that they weould react with air or water.

3. The top eight, because they are so reactive that it would take a lot of energy to get the metals back.

4. C > B > D > E > A You should study the reactivity series and the table to see that you can come up with this answer for yourself.

5. B reacts with oxygen to yield B oxide. B reacts with hydrochloric acid to yield B chloride and hydrogen gas. B reacts with water to yield B hydroxide and hydrogen gas.

The same word equations, except substitute C for B. If your teacher doesn't like that approach, substitute K for B and Na for C.

6. K Na Ca Mg Al Zn Fe Pb (H2) Cu Ag Au

Right side:

3. Because Ca ismore reactive than Cu, so Cu does not displace Ca.

4. a. Yes, b. No, c. Yes, d. Yes Now that you know the answers, you can explain why and write the word equations.

5. They are above H2 in the series, so they displace 2H+ ===> H2

6. Copper is below H

7. They are so unreactive that either they do not react, or their compounds are so unstable that the compounds decompose to the metal.
