I'm going to undergo an acid-carbonate reaction for science class but I'm unsure how to show that carbon dioxide was produced in the reaction for my write-up. Any ideas?

Collect the gas that is produced (maybe in a gas-syringe) and bubble it through limewater (which is dilute calcium hydroxide). If the cas contains carbon dioxide, a solid precipitate of calcium carbonate will form causing your limewater to turn milky.
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 --> CaCO3 + H2O
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 --> CaCO3 + H2O

Carbon dioxide thus obtained is passed through lime water .Lime water turns milky if the gas passed is carbon dioxide

i think if you get lime water or something it goes cloudy if theres carbon dioxide .. im not sure tho
