56% C, 6.00% H, 9.27% N, and 21.......
Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol. It consists of 63.56% C, 6.00% H, 9.27% N, and 21.17% O. What is the empirical formula of acetaminophen?

-
Empirical formula of acetaminophen : C8H9NO2

calculating atomic ratio by percentage of element divided by atomic weight.

C = 63.56 / 12 = 5.29
H = 6 / 1= 6
N = 9.27 / 14 = 0.66
O = 21.17 / 16 = 1.32

from above data minimum value is 0.66 so all atomic ratio divided by 0.66 as follow
C = 63.56 / 12 = 5.29 = 5.29 / 0.66 = 8.015 = 8
H = 6 / 1= 6 = 6 / 0.66 = 9.090= 9
N = 9.27 / 14 = 0.66 = 0.66 / 0.66 = 1
O = 21.17 / 16 = 1.32 = 1.32 / 0.66 = 2.

hence the empirical formula is C8H9NO2.

The treatment of migraine and/or cluster headaches in human beings in need of such treatment includes oral administration of a composition containing acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine and magnesium as the active ingredients. The inclusion of an additional active ingredient, guaifenesin, further provides treatment for severe sinus headaches.

Guaifenesin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine, and magnesium are all in the public domain. The chemical name for acetaminophen is 4'-hydroxyacetanilide, having the empirical formula C8 H9 NO2. Ibuprofen is known chemically as (35)-2-(p-isobutylphenyl)propionic acid, with the formula C13 H18 O2, while guaifenesin has the chemical name 3-(2-methoxphenoxy)-1,2-propanediol, and has the formula C10 H14 O4. The empirical formula for caffeine is C8 H10 N4 O2

The link below satisfies ur percentages in the formula....:)

Let say u dont know the formula. But you have the information:
C,H,N and O.

First... write the percentage...

C=63.56% , H=6.00% , N=9.27% , O=21.17%

Next, find the mole of each element...

Carbon,
63.56/12 mol = 5.23 mol

Hydrogen,
6.00/1 = 6 mol

Nitrogen,
9.27/14 = 0.66 mol

Oxygen,
21.17/16 = 1.323 mol

Next...find the simplest ratio of mol,
Carbon = 5.23/0.66
(reason why i divide it with 0.66 because it is the smallest mol that we get from calculation above)
=7.92
Approximately 8.

Hydrogen = 6/0.66
=9.09
Approxoximately 9...

Nitrogen = 0.66/0.66
=1

Oxygen = 1.323/0.66
= 2.004
Approximately 2...

so u get C=8, H=9, N=1, O=2...

The emperical formula is C8H9N02..there u have it.. ^^
