Viral meningitis (encephalitis or aseptic meningitis) is a type of inflammation where no pyogenic organisms can be found in the cerebrospinal fluid. The illness may appear following viral infection such as in chickenpox, measles, smallpox, vaccination, and others.

a. Viral meningitis can cause an infection of the meninges
b. These viruses are pus-causing pathogens that can lead to an inflammation of the brain.
c. Viral infection often follow and are secondary to viral meningitis
d. Viral meningitis is an apiece inflammation of brain membranes.

I have done some research and my hw on this question and I think the answer is "d" but i'm not sure. Can any one help with the correct answer please. Thanks!

My answer is based upon the passage you gave.

Not b, because the passage states that there are not pyogenic organism found of infected CSF.
Not c, bevause in contradicts the statement that the illness may follow after viral infection, thus making Viral meningitis secondary.
This leaves me with a and d.
Not a, because the definition given in this case is "inflammation on meninges".
(NOTE* viral meningitis is often referred to as an infection of the meninges, as well)
Answer is d. It agrees with the definition provided in the passage.
