In animals, energy is obtained from glucose, and other related carbohydrates. However, glucose is the major energy source. Animals get their energy sources from other organisms and plants.
When you eat chicken (which is an animal, aka an organism), you are giving your body the carbohydrates stored in that chicken's meat.
Plants, on the other hand, obtain energy using photosynthesis (Energy from the sun.)
When Light hits the plant, the different wavelengths of light are absorbed and transferred into usable energy. Nearly all the wavelengths of visible light are absorbable, except green (and a tiny portion of yellow). These are instead reflected, and strike our eyes. That is why we perceive plants as greenish colored.
