Does cloning produce a baby or an adult

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-04-10] [Hit: ]
since the cloning of Dolly the sheep, cloning techniques have improved significantly and result in healthy cloned animals who reproduce normally, and they live a normal life span.See: Top 15 Famous Animal Clonings!http://www.youtube.......
Cloning happens when you take the somatic cell nucleus of a person, and replace it with the nucleus of an egg. I understand that the process is similar to fertilization, however, I don't understand how the organism would come up.
Does the cloned organism come up as a baby that has to grow like a normal organism in its species or some other way, such as a full grown adult? Specifically, humans. If I were to clone a human, would the cloned organism be a baby or an adult?

A cloned human being would come into this world in exactly the same fashion as children formed in the usual way. They arrive as babies and grow, over time, into adults just like everyone else.

Your description of the donor cell nuclei transfer to the egg cell process is slightly incorrect. The nuclei in the egg cell itself is first removed before the donor's cell nucleus is inserted, then the egg is artificially activated into development.

By the way, since the cloning of Dolly the sheep, cloning techniques have improved significantly and result in healthy cloned animals who reproduce normally, and they live a 'normal' life span.

Neither, actually. Your clone would be a zygote, or a newly fertilized egg, and it would have to go through all of the growth stages of a normal fertilized egg cell, eventually becoming an embryo, then a fetus, then a baby, etc.It is often misunderstood that clones automatically come out as full-grown adults, but if you think it through, you'll realize that to clone must begin at the zygote stage and move through the rest of the growth cycle normally. At least, that's true with today's technology!

It would be a baby, the cells would have to be programmed into an egg, and a surrgate would be needed to carry the child as it grows, until birth. However, the cells would be that of an adult, so the life span of a clone would probably be less than that of a non-cloned person. Cloning has already been done with several animals (most famous being Dolly the Sheep), so if you look up Dolly you will find some more information. Hope this helps :)

It would be an adult right from the start, so make sure you have lots of room to operate, also keep some snacks handy as the clone will be hungry upon being produced. Hope this helps!
