I have homework on quadratic equations

You cant really choose a method for solving by just looking at the problem.You have to start solving by one or another method, then switch if it doesnt work.Its probably easiest to forget about the other methods and always use the quadratic formula since it works in all cases -- the other methods dont always.......
My teacher gave me a packet and one of the pages said to pick the best way to solve the problem by using factoring, square root, or quadratic formula but i don't really know which one to pick for them mostly i don't know the difference between factoring and using the quadratic formula i know how to solve both i just don't know which problem goes with witch
some to the problems can you help with pick which way of solving is best
x² -14x+53=0
3x² = -6x-12
5x²=25x=0
2x²=11x=5=0

-
x² -14x+53=0
53 doesn't factor, so use the quadratic formula:
x = 7 - 2i, 7 + 2i

3x² = -6x-12
Rearrange in standard form:
3x² + 6x + 12 = 0
Divide by 3, the GCF:
x² + 2x + 4 = 0
Use the quadratic formula:
x = -1 - i√3, -1 + i√3

5x²=25x=0 and 2x²=11x=5=0: too many equals signs.

You can't really choose a method for solving by just looking at the problem. You have to start solving by one or another method, then switch if it doesn't work. It's probably easiest to forget about the other methods and always use the quadratic formula since it works in all cases -- the other methods don't always.
