how do bacteria like Staphylococcus aureas gain mutations??????
-
in numerous ways. They get mutations so quickly because bacteria are producing by the thousands in an hour, so basically theyre going through generations of life so much more quickly than us humans, and also they reproduce asexually. This means that if a mutation happens to a cell, then it will always be passed on to the next virus cell 1 mutated cell turns to 2, then 4, then 8 and so on. Theres two ways they get mutations, one is adaptation to antibiotic medications, thats why even when you feel better after having strep throat or scarlet fever you still have to take your antibiotics, if you dont kill them off the few that remain can be resistand, and again they pass on their resistance genes and soon enough you have a problem, also bacterias DNA is not exactly similar to ours, they have a separate piece of genetic called a Plasmid which can do its own replication and changing, its pretty much a circular ring of genetic materials that can insert itself into chromosomal DNA and cause a mutation of the cell, its actually pretty cool stuff =)

1. DNA replication isn't 100% accurate
2. Transformation
3. Transduction
4. Bacterial conjugation
