So a few months ago I got the man I have been told was my father for 22 years DNA tested.
The result was an "exclusion" with 7 of the 15 markers not matching. However, ALL but one of the mismatches are 1 out. For example, where I had 11, 13 he had 12, 14.. This is the case for 6 of them, the other 1 is only 2 out.
Also, on one of the matches the PI is at 4.86.. Isnt this a pretty strong match? Another was 3.04.
Based on this, should we retest? I ask because every example of exclusions I've seen have been loads off, not just by 1 repeat.
Wanted to add.. Blood types don't rule him out, eye colour does not rule him out. I have the same hair colour, blonde, despite all of my family having dark hair. Also, as a baby I was his mirror image and as an adult our mannerisms are so similiar. Also, one of my mums friends, who would have been in the same house when I was conceived (they lived together) - refuses to believe he is not my father as she said "as soon as you were born there was no question about paternity". This is the other reason I ask this.

The simple answer is that the first test excluded him. A second test done by a different lab would either confirm the exclusion or show a match. It SHOULD show exactly the same result. If it is different, then you either assume that the first one was wrong, or the second is wrong. If they give different results, then you should probably have a third one done. Then you would know.
All of the other questions I have are things like: Why did you begin the testing in the first place? Has he been acting as your father? What will knowing that he is or not do to that relationship (if it has existed)? Do you want him to be a match or to be excluded? If he has been your dad, why does it matter? I hope you know the answers to these and many other questions you should have thought about before starting any of this. Obviously no one here has the right to know any of this.
