What is the independent variable if you are investigating human body responses to sudden heat loss.

The temperature change is the independent variable and the bodys response is the dependent variable. You control other things like air speed so you know the body is being cooled only by the water bath and not influenced by other factors.Acontrol would be a warm water bath to show the sudden immersion in water did not bring about the response.Another control would be with atest subject going through the motions in the same room temperature but not exposed to the water bath to show that no other factor in the room triggered the physiological response.......
The aim of this experiment is to compare the temperature of the armpit which represents the body core with the temperature of the left hand which represents the body shell when the right hand loses heat rapidly.

Method

Instruments used:

1. Bucket of crushed ice in water
2. thermistors
3. digital meters
4. wheatstone bridge containing resistors
5. power packs
6. stopclock

I'm not sure what the indpendent variable is and what teh control measure is? please help!

The independent variable is the factor you, as the experimenter, change or regulate. Here you are exposing a body to a sudden drop in temperature from temp X to temp Z. The temperature change is the independent variable and the body's response is the dependent variable. You control other things like air speed so you know the body is being cooled only by the water bath and not influenced by other factors.

A control would be a warm water bath to show the sudden immersion in water did not bring about the response.

Another control would be with a test subject going through the motions in the same room temperature but not exposed to the water bath to show that no other factor in the room triggered the physiological response.
