I am asking because Biology textbooks keep telling us what happens with the uterline lining during the period, but in fact could the women feel that themselves?
I hope that the question is not going to get anyone embarrassed.

I can feel thicker and usually have low back pressure. This is similar to feeling thicker after a meal, no details just an awareness of a pressure change.
Nerves do not provide a detailed map of the internal organs because we do not need to be aware of them for them to function. The autonomic nervous system carries information both ways between the brain and organs but this process is not handled in the same way as the information from the senses.
Autonomic sensory information from the organs is conducted by general visceral afferent fibers.
General visceral afferent sensations are mostly unconscious visceral motor reflex sensations from organs that are transmitted to the CNS. While the unconscious reflex arcs normally are undetectable, in certain instances they may send pain sensations to the CNS masked as referred pain. With internal distension the sense is only of the general, non-localized origin with no clear knowledge of what it is.
