Do the three stars of Orion's Belt ever appear in the night sky right after sunset to the east as the three brightest stars in the night sky?
If so, what time of year would it be, like what dates or date range?

answers:
Bill-M say: They are for a few minutes until Sirius comes up.

Ronald 7 say: About December
They are low to the Horizon at Sunset
They are not really as bright as Betelgueus or Aldebaran
And definitely not as bright as the nearby Sirrius

CarolOklaNola say: No because the three stars of Orion's belt are NOT the brightest stars in the sky. No matter in which detection they are. Aldebaran and Rigel will rise in the east before the stars in Orion's in belt Both are brighter stars . Rigel is still below the horizon in mid October after sunset.
I need to play with Stellarium a little more to find out which month the the belt of Orion will be above the eastern horizon after sunset , but I suspect it is December.

quantumclaustrophobe say: Well, sorta...
In the late fall, the 3 stars of the belt rise about 45 minutes ahead of Sirius, which is the brightest star in the northern sky; so - for about 45 minutes or so, they're *among* the brightest in the sky, but there are others that are brighter.

Henry say: No, it was Sirius.
-
Karen say: It could only happen at night, technically, because during the day, the stars just shut down when there's too much light. So any time really as long as it's dark.
