Is it possible to collect "soil" from every planet in our solar system, put them in a jar, and sell it on the black market?

answers:
shafay say: Not possible.
-
pmt853 say: If so te jars would be on sale at £3.99 in Splott market.
-
John D say: there's a sucker born every minute.
-
Jeffrey K say: No. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune have no solid surfaces so there is no soil.
-
bubby say: If it were possible you would get a disappointing return on your investment.
-
Paula say: Sure.
But you have to wait a while to do the collecting.
Because so far, the only sample and return has been from our moon.
We do not yet have spacecraft capable of collecting samples from any other planet.
Supposedly we will have a sample from Mars within 10 years.
The first job then would be to "borrow" some of that sample without NASA finding out.

Ronald 7 say: Getting it past the MIB Customs and Exise could be problematic
-
William say: I tried this back in 2007. After traveling all over the Solar System and gathering as much as my ship could hold, I offered them on the black market. They really weren't selling. Next time I'd take pictures of the samples actually being collected. I did get a decent price on a bottle of gas from Neptune, but I still took a heavy loss.
-
say: Some planets only contain poisonous gases or solid ice.
-
Donut Tim say: No, not possible.
If bought on the black market, one can be certain that it did not come from another planet.
-
james say: If you could collect samples from other planets. Today that would not be a black market product. But a high value product Governments would by for research.
-
Adullah M say: I would buy it because of that jar but not the things inside it.
-
Jim say: I suggest starting with the planet between Saturn and Neptune.
-
digquickly say: Well, ..., not every planet has "Ground" to gather soil from e.g. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. However, for those who have "soil" (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars) it is technologically possible. Having the funds to carry out the missions just might cost more that you'd ever recoup from the black market.
-
Bill say: You might want to look up the definition of what 'soil' is.
-
busterwasmycat say: I think it would be very difficult to hide the collection and sale of such materials and keep it in the "black" market. This isn't the sort of thing that could be hidden very easily, and the very idea of a black market is the hiding of the transactions. So, even if you could collect those sample (and you can't, as a practical thing, at least not in our current economic and technological state), you couldn't really hide the sales. Maybe some people could, perhaps. There are things (like stolen artworks) that do get sold via a black market but the risks are extremely high and the number of people involved are small. And even then, the authorities often get wind of it.
-
snowflake melter say: Yes, but make sure you move around a lot and change your name frequently
-
CarolOklaNola say: No, not technically possible at this time.
-
Davros say: There are only 4 planets it is possible to collect surface samples from: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.
The others are some form of gas giant without a surface. Although they could be sampled, it would be gaseous, not solid.
Of those you can visit (excluding Earth), Mars is the easiest to return samples from. Followed by Mercury, then finally Venus which would be nigh on impossible with our technology.
As yet no Planetary samples have ever returned to Earth. However there are plans for a Mars sample return mission in the near future. I wouldn't expect the sample size to be more than a few hundred grams so not much to go on the black market!
Of course, you can collect soil from Earth any time you like. Congratulations if you can find someone who will buy it from you!
-
Norman say: No, they don't all have soil.
-
Zardoz say: Only Earth has soil. You could collect regoliths from a few of the others.
-
Acetek say: no seeing as 4 of the planets are gas giants
