why stars twinkle but planet does nt ?

-sadia say: Bottom line: Stars twinkle because they appear like tiny pinpoints when we see them from Earth, even through telescopes. Planets dont twinkle because they are closer, and they always appear larger in our sky, as tiny disks instead of pinpoints, like stars look.......
Lou C. Ferr say: Stars EMIT light waves, planets reflect them.
-
Alex say: It's all about the magnitude. The stars are faint and thus are subject to the flicker of atmospheric dust and whatnot. Planets are closer and thus brighter and so the flicker is less noticeable.
-
Karac Newland say: planets do produce light.
-
posyaquep say: Some planets shine as the stars do, by the reflect of light, but the stars shine by self light as they burn like the sun
-
wereq say: short answer is... they do, just not nearly as much.

sadia say: Bottom line: Stars twinkle because they appear like tiny pinpoints when we see them from Earth, even through telescopes. Planets don't twinkle because they are closer, and they always appear larger in our sky, as tiny disks instead of pinpoints, like stars look. The question is Why Planets Don't Twinkle? Planets, just like the Sun, do not twinkle. Planets are also closer to the Earth than those distant stars, so planets appear larger in comparison. Due to the planets closeness to Earth, the light coming from these celestial bodies does not bend much due to Earth's atmosphere special atmosphere.Stars twinkle because of movement in the earth’s atmosphere. Starlight enters the atmosphere as straight Ray's, but air moves the light’s path so it appears to flicker or “TWINKLE” and PLANETS do not.

Michael say: Since stars are so far away. What makes you think those you call stars are'nt planets & from that location how do you know we're not sparkling for others to see. Why dont you ask NASA'S Hubble Telescope what stars look like now that their far advance to see 23 years from earth. Mike

Martial say: cuz our eyes would go blind if earth twinkled
-
Bill say: Distance from Earth. Amount of Light. The Earths Atmoshpere.
-
Lollie say: angels are stars and the devil made the planets to lead us to tempation
-
Enough Trolls say: Actually, if you could fix your eye on a planet for a LONG time it would blink as a mote of dust passed in front of it. This is very rare because they are relatively large compared to stars in the sky (not literally larger - they just appear larger) and there is not a lot of dust in space.
