I would like to take a trip to visit and explore some of the Mayan temples I have heard so much about. I really want to go Dec. 21, 2012. Is that strange or weird? I don't want to go for some new age reason, I just ....want to go. Does anyone else want to do this?

No, you definitely are NOT crazy, but you may have a lot of trouble finding a space on a tour group. They probably are fully booked up for that particular date. Look at some archeology magazines or archeology magazine web-sites and some travel web-sites.

Not particularly, no. With all the hype that has been built by the End-of-the-Worlder's and their incessant whine about the 2nd solstice of 2012, it's just about a guarantee that a good portion of the world's true nut-jobs will be in attendance. I personally will be watching the riots on CNN on the 22nd of December when all these wackos realize (like so many other doomsayers) that the world didn't come to an end, and all those bills they racked up will have to actually be paid!
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Heck no! They are awesome. Weird would be not wanting to go. I might not go on 12/21/12 because the squirrels will be having a feeding frenzy with all the nuts around, but I'd still risk it if that were the only date available to me.

I've seen lots of Mayan pyramids. They're interesting and well worth seeing, but nowadays they're just another tourist destination.
The pyramids are designed to be more impressive on the equinoxes than on the solstices.
