There are reasons for rice being different colors. I'm not an expert on biology, but here's a link that explains this.

There are reasons to everything, you can never just say "that's the way it is", there is always a reason whether it's not readily perceived or not.

13.7 billion years is actually the median or average value of a RANGE of ages for how old the universe is, from 12.3 to 14.8 billion years. That's the reason for the 13.7 billion years. It's a statistical average or median age, (Average and median are NOT the same thing.)

"...Age & Size of the Universe Through the Years
Our estimate of the age and size of the Universe has changed during the past century. Cosmic Times reflects this through the "Age of the Universe" and "Size of the Universe" boxes in the upper left and upper right of each edition. The Size refers to the diameter of the known universe. ..."

Why not 13.7 billion years? It has to be *some* number, and 13.7 billion is as good as any other. Do you have some particular reason for thinking another number is better? Or do you just object the the implied accuracy (in your mind only) of that, as if it can't be 13.71 or 13.69. Well it can be 13.71 or 13.69. 13.7 is just the best number we have come up with (so far) based on how fast distant galaxies are moving away and how far away they are now.

-
Because it's t=0 counting to now.

-
it is an estimate, and is most likely rounded from a much larger number with a lot more decimal places

-
Your question is without meaning.

The reason it's 13.7 billion years old is BECAUSE IT'S 13.7 BILLION YEARS OLD. Duh.

-
Its just the way it is, thats like asking why is rice white? why isnt it black?

-
just cuz
