Can elephants jump? If not, why

Mark Grunwald, who has worked with elephants for more than a decade at the Philadelphia Zoo, notes that elephant’s bone structure makes it difficult for them to bend their legs sufficiently to derive enough force to propel the big lugs up. Yet there have been a few sightings of jumping elephants in the wild.In response to the guy who submitted the second answer, he is wrong.......
If they can't, why?

Most mature Elephants are too heavy to jump. Not only that, but their legs are designed for strength rather than agility. In response to the guy who submitted the second answer, he is wrong. An Elephant's lack of jumping has nothing to do with their height. Giraffes are taller than Elephants, but they can jump. However they don't need to do it very often because of their long necks. Elephants have been noted to be the only mammal that can't jump, which isn't always true.

@Jeff there have been a few sightings of elephants jumping. I don't have any documentation, but look it up, genius. They Would NOT break their legs, they have lots of strength in them. They are just designed for trampling and crushing.

They would break their legs.

@bearagator Do you have any documentation of elephants jumping? The only thing I can find is a baby that "jumps" logs. He was actually stepping over them and they caught him half way over so his front feet were on one side and his back the other.

They do have lots of strength in their legs....Not enough to jump with though......their legs would in fact break....or an adults would....perhaps an infants. And I did look it up....and found diddly-squat. No accepted documentation.....Just like the 42 foot Anaconda or the flathead catfish in lake of the ozarks large enough to swallow a man whole....no accepted evidence....just heresay and rumor

I so far know that elephant can jump.

I'm pretty sure they're too tall and heavy to jump.
