The brightest (absolute magnitude) star known is R136a1 but cant be seen with the human eye.-Brightest star to us earthlings is our Sun.......

Sirius Star A, the Dog Star is the brightest star visible to our naked eyes. In August months, it will be visible along with the Sun during day time making bright, hot and unbearable.

During nights, it will be visible along with another small star. This is known as Sirius B, both of which orbit each other in an elliptical orbit in a time period of 49 years.

You are confusing brightness with luminosity the brightest star from the Earth is the sun, the next is Sirius. The most luminous is R136a1 which is 8700000 times the luminosity of the sun.

-
Your question isn't as straight forward as it seems.

The brightest star the human eye can see (apparent magnitude) is Sirius.

The brightest (absolute magnitude) star known is R136a1 but can't be seen with the human eye.

-
