Pretend a scientist has discovered that a killer asteroid will hit the Earth in a matter of weeks, but no one knows exactly where. What would you do if you were in charge of preparing the world for the impact? Create a three-part plan to divert the space rock, lessen its impact, and save as many lives as possible.

Please follow the three-part plan. I did one and I will post it after I hear some of your great ides. =)

1: Provide the nation's leaders with protection first. There is nothing worse than post-impact anarchy.
2: Fire as many nukes as possible to the front and either left or right of the asteroid, letting some detonate before hand and letting some blow it apart. Meanwhile, hold organized evacuations away from the area astronomers believe it might fall post nuke diversion.
3:A: should collision course continue, tell public that meteor is much smaller and less hazardous than it is, and encourage people to stock up and hunker down. The last thing we need is panic.
B: Should course be averted, prepare for following asteroids; where there's one, there may be more.
Also, celebrate and act like the danger was blown way out of proportion.

Well, if i had complete or at least enough power politically, i would

1. have the scientists tell me the distance of how far and fast the blast might be. Prepare to have people of the soon to be ground zero area and around it to evacuate into the farthest part of the world(at the other end of the world if possible). and if possible, supply people with free airplane rides and food packets with compensation for lost items in resulting blast.
2. in the mean time have the scientists figure out if they can send a missile (nuclear or whatever possible and recommended), to blast the asteroid, but after everyone is evacuated, also have several smaller missiles prepared to destroy resulting debris.
3. pray to GOD.
