Will humans ever build a ship that can travel at the speed of light

and what happens if they try to test it out??

Unless the laws of our universe change (which as far as physicists believe is impossible) the answer would be no. The laws on how light speed travel work would either freeze us in time or stretch us into infinity.

Consider this:

The LHC is a huge machine that is literally miles across. It consumes megawatts of power. It cannot even accelerate a single proton weighing 1.7*10^-27 kg to the speed of light.

The LEP is a similar instrument. It cannot even accelerate a single electron to the speed of light. And electrons are about 1/1000 the mass of a proton.

How much energy then do you think it would take to accelerate a vehicle weighing just a few tons to even the speeds that the electrons in the LEP reach?

The answer comes out to be the total energy output of several galaxies!

The only large objects that travel at even a fraction of the speed of light are galaxies at the farthest reaches of the universe. Effectively it took the energy output of the big bang to accelerate those galaxies.

So no, we will never build spaceships that travel at even half the speed of light.

Speeds that exceed that of light is impossible. The Universe has a fundamental symmetry, called Lorentz symmetry, which causes to exist an asymptotic upper limit on all relative speeds. Objects with mass can never reach that upper limit. Mass-less objects (such as photons) must travel at that limiting speed, and no other.
