why roosters are not allowed in NYC?
“Roosters tend to be noisy and aggressive, and they are not needed for egg production,” Health Department spokeswoman Veronica Lewin said. seriously? that's pretty dumb for a reason, people just want to have them as pets, doesn't matter if our pets lay eggs or not, we just simply love our pets. surely we...

answers:
Dobiegal say: Barking dogs are also a nuisance. Roosters crow 24 -7. they cannot be trained no to crow.
-
Paula say: There are two problems
1) noise
And of course some roosters do crow all night long
2) smell
The chicken dung smells if it gets wet. And some chicken owners don't know how to deal with that problem.

So the solution is to ban all chickens

oikoσ say: Noise, of course. But you already knew that, didn't you? I live far enough from my nearest neighbor for my roosters not to be a problem. Contrast that with someone living in an apartment building, with thin walls, floors, and ceilings.
-
Elaine M say: Roosters make too much noise in small spaces to be tolerable. My city allows up to 6 hens but no rooster. The roosters just do not shut up.
-
Tarkarri say: Roosters are not generally kept as pets.
I live in a small country town.
We keep chickens.
We would not keep a rooster.
If one of the chicks we buy (from a nearby farm that breed) turns out to be a rooster, they will end up as dinner.
Roosters are VERY loud and can crow 24/7.
-
say: Most cities ban roosters for the exact reasons she mentioned.
-
Star_of_Darkness say: They are not pets

They guard the hens and they are food. Thats all they are. And they are noisy. No neighbor has to put up with a crowing rooster.

And many breeds are very aggressive and will attack people

THe people who keep roosters don't treat them as pets and don't have them as pets, they use them for breeding, guarding the flock and in many areas, for game fighting which is illegal but the Mexicans don't care

The fact you are whining about roosters shows you are likely wanting to breed game roosters and sell them for fighting

PR say: Roosters crow very early in the morning and can be heard for miles around when most people sleep. In a city setting, this could bother people for miles around.

Following article states crowing reaches 130db, just below damage-causing 140:
https://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2017/01/s...

Dogs who are kept indoors typically sleep when their owners sleep, rising when it is time to eat or when others begin moving around.

Roosters will even crow in a darkened area, or due to other stimuli, awakening all around them.

I'm pretty sure by the way you've worded your question, you know the answers to your q's, and realize this isn't really about egg production, but about ppl around the roosters. Thus, farmers can't argue a rooster is required for egg production: Hens will lay eggs, whether a rooster is present, or not.

I agree there should be more restrictions on dogs, but let's "talk crow".
