A 2.50m -long, 520g rope pulls a 6.00kg block of ice across a horizontal, frictionless surface. The block accelerates at 1.60m/s^2 . How much force pulls forward on the rope?

The net force acting on the block of ice is f = MA = T, which is the tension on the rope. And as the rope is not parting, the balance of forces on the rope is P - T = 0 so that the pull P = T.

So P = T = 6*1.6 = 9.6 N. ANS.

If you copied the question word for work, then 9.6 N is correct. But if you did not, perhaps you've left out something important...like a slope? Or perhaps an angle of the rope with the horizontal?
