How much must we compress the spring?Show your work and your answer.Studying for test.and solve for x.......
A package of mass 10 kg sits at the equator of an airless asteroid of mass 8.0 X10^20 kg and radius 3.9X10^5 m. We want to launch the package in such a way that it will never come back, and when it is very far from the asteroid it will be traveling with speed 222 m/s. We have a large and powerful spring whose stiffness is 2.5X10^5 N/m. How much must we compress the spring?

Show your work and your answer.
Studying for test.
Thanks

Use conservation of mechanical energy

1/2 m v^2 =- GMm/R + 1/2 K x^2

and solve for x.
