2. Whats the line formula for 1,1-dichloro-2,2-difluoroethane?http://tinypic.com/r/2ebek44/6-Both are correct.......
1. What's the condensed structural formula for 4,6,7-trimethyldecane?

2. What's the line formula for 1,1-dichloro-2,2-difluoroethane?

Here are diagrams and my attempts:

Both are correct. If you want an explanation, here goes:

4,6,7-trimethyldecane
The main backbone molecule is a decane, which means it is a 10-C chain. The 4,6,7 will be the substituents that will be attached at the location to the respective carbon; one methyl (CH3) group to the C-4, one methyl to C-6, and one methyl to C-7. However, there is an error in the naming of this molecule. Since the naming for just methelated alkanes starts with the end carbon closest to the substituent group being C-1, followed by the position of the next substituent, the correct name is 4,5,7-trimethyldecane. If you look at your molecule and count backwards (from right to left), you will see that the 2nd methyl group will be on C-5 instead.

1,1-dichloro-2,2-difluoroethane
Much easier. It is an ethane, a 2-C alkane. It doesn't matter which carbon you designate to be C-1 or C-2. Whichever you designate, just make sure there are two F on the same C, and two Cl on the other.
