Thank you!!m .70 x 9.8 = 2T cos θ ---> cos θ = 1.5/(1.......
Nik is walking a tightrope across Niagara Falls. The tightrope spans 460 m. He has a mass of 70 kg. When he stands in the center of this tightrope, it deflects downward 1.5 m. Find the tension in the tightrope while he is standing at this point.
The answer is 5.25 X 10^4 N, but I don't know how to get there.

Thank you!!

the equilbrium forces on the tightrope :
m . g = T cos θ + T cos θ
70 x 9.8 = 2T cos θ ---> cos θ = 1.5/(1.5^2 + 230^2)^(1/2) ≈ 1.5/230

--> T = (70 x 9.8)/(2 x (1.5/230)) = 5.25 x 10^4 N
