if we sit on the grass and observe clouds moving, is the earth moving, are the clouds moving or are both of us moving?
how can we tell which it is?
I am too scared to ask my teacher this cos my questions are childish and probably make smart physics people roll their eyes.

Let me say you're questions aren't childish or stupid but inquisitive, and only means you have a mind fit for the scientific community. Never be ashamed of ignorance because as scientist we live at the front door of ignorance itself. How do we get so "smart" by asking questions just like you are now, so it's never anything to be shameful of.
But, to answer your question both clouds and the Earth are moving. If you didn't know contrary to popular belief the Earth is always in motion lol. The Earth is constantly rotating on it's axis and revolving around the sun. In addition the clouds are also moving. The movement of clouds can be attributed by factors such as the wind and the Coriolis force which is also attributed to the Earth's rotation. Hope this helped. :)
