Time travel..would you go forwards or backwards

If you could time travel would you go back in time or forwards and why ?

If I could only travel once, and did not get a chance to return, then I would travel back to ~3000BC.
I'd share everything I know about physics with the Ancient Egyptians, to accelerate the progession of science.

If I could return, I'd go into the year 3000, not much would have changed but we live underwater, and your great great great grand daughter, is pretty fine.

No, but really, I'd go to the year 5,000 and bring back blueprints for a Nuclear fusion powerplant. To save the current Earth of another 20-500 years of fossil fuel use.

I would choose to go backwards.

Life was far from idyllic. There was hard work, deprivation, wars, disease etc.
But there were many social values too.
And in many ways there were greater freedoms. ( but not in all ways or at all times.)
Those freedoms came from fewer people competing for the same limited resources.

I would enjoy learning the whole picture then comparing it with the current "history".

Probably backwards, as I fear for our future.
