No idea about strange matter, but anti matter is a theory to explain:
1) The fact that there is too much mass in the universe, parts of the universe have been measured and thier masses estimated, but they always seem to be heavier than anticipated.
2)How matter can exist, it could explain the big bang, so there were tiny fluctuations and this created matter, and its equal and opposite anti matter. Most of these canceled out but the fluctuations meant that there was more matter than anti matter...
