If it had an initial velocity it will be always ( for ever) moving with that constant speed. The mechanism of liftinga body is as follows.A very small excess force is applied on it so that it is set in motion with almost no speed( very small velocity).Quickly the excess force (excess force alone) is removed. The body moves up with net force equal to zero ,At the final stage againthe applied force is removed so that thesmall velocity reduces to zero and quickly the force is again applied to keeep it at rest.......
How can you do work in lifting a body against gravitational field without giving it velocity?
Body should acquire some velocity or kinetic energy when you apply force on it.

Do you agree with the fact once a body is given some velocity ( by some means) it will move without any net force acting on it.

The weight is balance by an upward force . The net force is now zero.

If it is initially at rest it will be always at rest.
If it had an initial velocity it will be always ( for ever) moving with that constant speed.

The mechanism of lifting a body is as follows.

A very small excess force is applied on it so that it is set in motion with almost no speed( very small velocity).

Quickly the excess force (excess force alone) is removed.
The body moves up with net force equal to zero ,

At the final stage again the applied force is removed so that the small velocity reduces to zero and quickly the force is again applied to keeep it at rest.

The process is at any time the body is not allowed to gain kinetic energy , but gains potential energy.

To lift against a gravitational field, assumed constant, is to change the position of the object in the gravitational field, this will result in a change in Potential energy (a form of energy that an object exhibits within a conservative field based on its position), doing so in conservative fields means work was done.

I'm not sure I understand your question but:
You can NOT lift a body without giving it velocity.

Edit:
Unless it is already moving.
Then you just need to do as much work while lifting, as the difference in gravitational energy between the starting and final position.

-
yes, you are reight as to lift you have to apply Force accordingly acceleration will be produced, KE will be induced and as the oblect attain height KE is converted in to PE.

-
You lift it slowly. Or you decrease the force when you get close to the desired height.

think of an elevator moving from one floor to another.

All i know about Physics is about the Apple that fell on some ones's head..

I am sorry..
