Conservation of Energy Help!?! (physics)

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-12-02] [Hit: ]
all the energy is PE and PE for a spring is (1/2) k x^2 and when the ball reaches its max height, all the energy have been converted into a different type of PE,h = 10 N/m * (0.1 m)^2 / (2 * 0.001 kg * 9.h = 0.......
A spring with a relaxed length of 0.3 m and a spring constant of 10 N/m is compressed to 0.1 m. A 0.01 kg ball is placed on top of the spring. The spring is released and the ball is thrown into the air, what maximum height will the ball reach?

Please and thank you :') <3

Hello Amanda,

Before releasing the ball, all the energy is PE and PE for a spring is (1/2) k x^2 and when the ball reaches its max height, all the energy have been converted into a different type of PE, "height energy" = m g h

(1/2) k x^2 = m g h

h = k x^2 / (2 m g)

h = 10 N/m * (0.1 m)^2 / (2 * 0.001 kg * 9.81 m/s^2)

h = 0.51 m

Good Luck
