birds. In these areas the albedo of ice keeps the temperature astonishingly low. Life can exist in harsh temperature, but all of these species rely upon water. Oxygen for example is not essential to life as there are species at the bottom of the ocean that breath gases that would be deadly to humans. That said though life in these areas is extremely sparse and the number of species is lower than anywhere else on earth.......
3) Life on earth can be attributed to a number of things, but the prevalence of water is the most important. It should be noted that life has evolved in places where the "days" are thousands of hours long. In the poles for instance you have several months of perpetual daylight but there are still mammals, fish, birds. In these areas the albedo of ice keeps the temperature astonishingly low. I think earth's gravity will increase if the earth's time period of rotation increase due decrease in centrifugal force, but at the poles there won't be any change in gravity a they are not influenced by centrifugal force. because of increase in gravity earth will have denser atmosphere.
