I'm taking Orientation to Anatomy and Physiology. I have the definition of Metabolic Rate, but i cannot come up with an example to relate to the definition i have in my book.
"The definition i have: the speed at which the body produces energy and heat."

I'm not surprised you are having difficulty. That's a pretty terrible definition. It would be more appropriate to define it as "the energy consumed by the body in a given time in order to stay alive". In warm-blooded animals this involves processes of growth and movement as well as the generation of heat. Cold-blooded animals do not generate heat except in small amounts as a by-product of movement.
As for quantities, the metabolic rate in a stable state is the same as the calorie intake in the diet. If an adult male human takes in 2500 kcalories a day, that is his daily energy requirement, so that is his metabolic rate.
