I need a material that can absorb water really well, but there are some criteria, such as:
-It needs to be absorbent
-It needs to be non-flimsy, unlike flimsy materials like sponge, cotton etc.
Please suggest some materials; the more materials that you suggest, the better. Also, please put them in order of which the most absorbent material that fits into my criteria is mentioned first. Thank you and cheers (:

how rigid must it be?
and does it need to be rigid before and after absorbing the water?
I think you'd be looking for something like activated carbon. It is like a sponge, in that it has a great deal of surface area, but will hold its shape. There are other similar substances too. These would actually be adsorbing the water onto their large internal surface area. Chemicals that undergo a change as they bond to water molecules are more likely to change their physical properties in the process.
