I don't think they have actually achieved thought reading and translation to computer interface where thoughts are converted into words and displayed -- maybe, but I don't think so just yet. These EEG headsets work by detecting what's called an "evoked potential". It is a brain wave spike that occurs (unconsciously) whenever we are presented with information that we have previous exposure to or knowledge of (search Brain Fingerprinting); it also happens when we make a conscious decision to act, usually occurring just before we proceed to carry out a particular act.

I can tell you this much for certain: if they don't have the technology to convert thoughts into words on a computer screen yet, they will have very soon. Indications are that even your brain images (dreams and visual experiences) will be translated and encoded for computer display. They are rapidly advancing with reverse engineering and mapping the human brain, encoding/decoding all functions. Needless to say that neuroscience today is a very potent and exciting field of science to be working in.
