my doctor prescribed me 4 vitamin d pills (because my vitamin d levels were really low) that i have to take once a week for a month. the vitamin d pill is small, oval shaped, green in color, and it is like a gel pill.
so far its been 2 weeks and i've taken two but on the label it says swallow whole, do not chew or crush. i'm scared to swallow pills so i've always have a habit of biting them or chewing them. Is it okay if instead of swallowing my pill as a whole, i'm chewing it? my doctor did say its a heavy dosage...would i be overdosing myself by biting into it?

There's no harm in dis-integrating a vitamin like that, so chew/break away at it. Some may correct me and point out that breaking or smashing it can affect absorption, but with something like that it is fine.
EDIT: Gee, Rich, are you a member of some special political party? lol

No, it is not OK. You must follow the directions on the label.
