Would you give a 14-15 year old malnourished girl who has just recently attempted suicide (and suffered brain hemorrhage from the attempt,) Fluoxetine (Prozac)? Is her depression severe enough to justify the drug treatment? If it's safe to give her an antidepressant, what dosage would you give her? How long would she need to stay on the medication? Are there any foods or substances she would have to avoid? Sorry for all the questions… But thank you in advance to those who answer, and I will award 10 points in an hours to the best. :)

I am 16 and I take Prozac myself and it has made a big difference for me. But before I tried antidepressants, I tried other options first. I tried herbal supplements, therapy, exercising, and changing my diet which didn't work for me but some people have tremendous success from. First off, the girl you are talking about whether it's you or your daughter needs to be nourished first. She may need to be admitted in the hospital for a while so she can get nutrition she needs. That will help a lot by itself. Getting her to take a multivitamin is great. I promise I'm not advertising nor was I paid to say this but I use Centrum Specialist Energy. It has panax ginseng in it and energizing B-vitamins. That with my Prozac is a good combo for me.
If this girl truly is malnourished, she needs to be nourished, loved, and kept safe. Therapy is great. Also 5-HTP is a good natural alternative to antidepressants for some. For me not so much, but for others it has.
All antidepressants have the risk to cause worsening of depression. It's rare, but possible. So if the girl does take antidepressants, close monitoring is required.

My goodness. Are you the girl, the mother, or the doctor? Or is this completely hypothetical? You shouldn't be asking around like this-you should be talking to this girl's doctor/pediatrician. Who wants her to take antidepressants? Is she seeing a psychiatrist or are you just playing around with how many drugs you can give her? (Without killing her, that is.)
You're not asking the right people and you're not asking in the right place.
I just realized this sounds like someone who's writing a rather dark book--There are places you can get answers but this is not it! You might even be able to talk to your OWN doctor, but you have no idea who these people really are.
