hello,
i need help with my year 10 maths assignment and i do not understand it.
i have to use excel
please help me- i would greatly appreciate it !
thanks
Creating a Line
Step 1 : Generate a random number to one decimal place (teacher to instruct) between 1 and 5. This is the gradient of a line.
Step 2: Generate two more random integers between -10 and 10. These are the x and y coordinates of a point on the line, respectively.
(i) Clearly state the gradient and the point determined and find the equation of your line.
(ii) Repeating Steps 1 and 2, generate another random number between -5 and -1 for the gradient of a second line and find the equation (generating the two integers as above for the point).
(iii) Using one of the simultaneous equations methods learnt in class to find the point of intersection of these two lines you have found in (i) and (ii)

Can you be more specific on what you do not understand?
gradient is simply the slope and shown by the symbol "m" in this equation ...
y = mx + b
Step 1 will generate a "positive" upward slope and Step 2 will generate a "negative' downward slope. These two linear lines will intersect at some point
Now, you will also generate two random points (x,y) where x and y are between -10 and 10
Using the equation y = mx + b ...
For each Step, substitute the random variables m, x and y into the equation, then solve for "b"
Now you will have two linear equations with two unknowns. Solve them using what you know about simultaneous equations (substitution, elimination, etc).
Email me if you have questions
Hope that helps
